We use paypal as our billing system, this means that we can accept all major credit and debit cards. |
| How hard is it to move my site to your servers from another web host? |
Normally this is a very simple process. If you contact us we will be more than happy to help with moving the site. |
| How long will it take to set my account up? |
All accounts will be setup within 12 hours. We do not offer instant setup on new orders so we can review the order to help reduce fraud.

| Do you use Windows or Linux as a hosting platform? |
Most of our servers run Red Hat Linux, however if you need an account on a Windows based server please get in touch with your requirements and we will provide you with a quote. |
| How much webspace will I need? |
This depends on the size of your website. If your site is only made of a few images and html pages the basic account will probably provide enough website to meet your needs. If your site has a lot of file downloads then you may require an account with more webspace. |
| What is bandwidth and how much will I need? |
Bandwidth refers to the amount of traffic that your web site uses on a monthly basis. For most users 2Gb of monthly traffic is more than enough. The more visitors you get the more bandwidth you will need, also if your site is more graphic intensive it will consume more bandwidth. |
| What is an SMTP server? |
| SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol which allows you to send emails from our server. |
| How many POP3 accounts will I need? |
A POP3 mail server allows you to receive and store email messages. It is compatible with MS Outlook and Outlook Express, you will also be able to read your email via our webmail software. For each mailbox/user you will need a POP3 account. |
| What is webmail? |
| Webmail allows you to check your email from a web browser, it is particularly usefulll if you need to check your email from different computers. |
| Can I connect to a database? |
With the Professional and Premium accounts you can connect to MySQL which is an SQL based database. |
| What are Urchin statistics? |
Urchin is a highly advanced package that allows you to review your web traffic using graphs and stats. It uses your web logs and displays the information such as traffic and referals in a readable format. |

From your control panel you can perform the following functions:
- Setup users and mailboxes
- View site/usage reports
- Run backups and restores
- Access a virtual file manager
- Setup protected directories |
| What is PHP? |
PHP is short for Hypertext Preprocessor, it is an open source, server side, HTML embedded scripting language used to create dynamic web pages. The syntax of PHP is similar to Perl or C and can be embedded in within your HTML using <? ?> tags (similar to ASP and Cold Fusion). |

| What are DNS records? |
DNS records tell other computers on the internet where your site is. Every domain name on the internet (eg Swift-Hosting.com, cnn.com, bbc.co.uk etc) has at least two DNS records. Our DNS records are
ns3.swift-hosting.com and
ns4.swift-hosting.com
These DNS records are essential to your site functioning, as they tell other computers which IP address, or remote computer your site resides on. For example, if you were to look at www.swift-hosting.co.uk your web browser would communicate as follows:

They are ns3.swift-hosting.com and ns4.swift-hosting.com

The 216.127.85.99 is an IP address which uniquely identifies each computer on the internet, whether they be a casual net surfer (like many of your visitors) or a server (like our servers, that store your web site.)

| Can I preview my site from an IP address? |
Before your DNS records have updated you can preview your site by using an IP address and the path to your website (which we shall provide you with).

| How do you measure the monthy bandwidth allocation? |
All traffic sent to and from you website is counted in your monthly bandwidth. This means any web page views via HTTP, as well as file uploading and downloading via FTP are counted towards your monthly alloted bandwidth. |
| What happens if I go over my monthly bandwidth allocation? |
If you only just go over you alloted bandwidth we will normally let it go. However we reserve the right to charge £0.005 for every Mb you go over your limit. You can view your current usage information from within your control panel. |
| Where can I view my statistics and traffic analysis? |
You can view basic traffic information from within your control panel, or you can view you Urchin web statistics for your site at http://www.yourdomainname.com:8888/ . |
| What type of database software do you offer? |
We use MySQL. |
| What are the specifications of the servers you use? |
We have several different server configs that all use quality components to reduce the risk of a hardware failure. We will also keep the number of sites on a server to the bare minimum so that your site will load lightning quick 24 hours a day 7 days a week. |
| Can I telnet to SSH to the server? |
No, we disable connections to our servers via telnet and SSH. This is to protect our clients privacy and security. |
| Can I use .htaccess? |
Yes, you can use the .htaccess. |
| Can I create my own custom error pages? |
Yes, you can use the .htaccess file to define your error pages. If you need further assistance get in touch and we will be more than happy to help you set this feature up. |
| What connectivity do you have to the internet? |
The servers are connected to the internet via 14 Gigabit Ethernet links from six separate backbone providers. This means that your website will load as if the server was right next to you wherever in the world you live. |
| What do I use to upload my site? |
You need an ftp program to upload your website to the internet. You can download FTP applications free from Download.com. |

We will provide your connection details to you in your welcome email after you sign up. |
